Interview with Forsakken

Ariel's Attic
Interview With Jenn Hailey

About (Taken from Band's Facebook Page):

"Born out of a love for music with grand concepts and ambitious arrangements, Ariel's Attic brings together their various influences into a melting pot of styles that sounds unique yet somehow familiar, with a nod towards bands like Rush, Nightwish, Savatage, and a penchant for the symphonic and even operatic at times. The result is a bone crunching, driving metal foundation provided by Mike, Gary and Bob, tempered by Jenn's angelic voice. We hope you all enjoy what we put up here as much as we enjoyed creating it."

Interview:

N. A. Foy: When did the band form?

Jenn: Ariel's Attic started between Bob Ross and Mike Olson. They worked together previously on a few albums. They had an idea of putting together a band with a heavy sound and a female vocalist for 2 or 3 years. So, it was in the making for a while. Bob and I got connected through mutual friends and I auditioned. Then once we had that, they knew we'd need a second guitarist. That's when Bob contacted his band mate Gary about joining as he knew Gary had the kind of sound and personality we were looking for.

N. A. Foy: How old were you when you decided to pursue a career in music and were there any particular musicians or singers that inspired you?

Jenn: I'm not sure if I ever decided to pursue a career in music. In fact, I would say I was reluctant to have music be anything more than a hobby because, you know - bills. Some of my influential artists are Rob Halford, Jim Croce, Bruce Dickinson, Ann Wilson and Joan Jett.

N. A. Foy: What are you currently working on as a band?

Jenn: We're starting the first drafts of our second album, but mostly doing everything we know to promote “Garden of the Gods.”

N. A. Foy: I just put "Garden of the Gods" on my website this morning. How would you describe the album to someone you just met in an elevator?

Jenn: Thank you, we really appreciate you doing that! That is a good question. I think I would describe it as symphonic metal with influences from Rush, Nightwish, and Metallica.

N. A. Foy: Do you plan on doing a video from "Garden of the Gods?"

Jenn: Well we have the “Free Fall” video out now, and we're considering doing a video for “Hallelujah,” but that probably won't be out until fall or winter.

N. A. Foy: What are some things you like to do for enjoyment when you are not doing music?

Jenn: Apart from just kicking back with some friends having a cold one, I enjoy camping and fishing when I can, baking, and I recently started practicing jiu-jitsu and kickboxing

N. A. Foy: If you were stuck on an island and somehow were able to listen to music, what 3 CDs would you want with you?

Jenn: “Photographs and memories” - Jim Croce, “Screaming for vengeance” -Judas Priest, “Even in the quietest moments” - Supertramp

N. A. Foy: Out of the lyrics you perform so far, is there a particular one that you like best? Is there a story behind it?

Jenn: Oh that's tough

I don't think there's any one particular line. However, “The Trilogy” is probably my favorite lyrically because I can imagine in great detail the entire story unfolding as I perform or listen to it. Plus, it was an absolute blast to tackle something that big musically.

N. A. Foy: How about some favorites. What is your favorite color? Number? Foods? Movie(s)? Book(s)? Or any other favorites you want to mention?

Jenn: Colour; purple, Number: 72 - I don't know why Foods - seafood of pretty much any kind, Book: “A Place Called Freedom” - Ken Follet Smell – Wood Burning Instrument: Violin or piano T.V Show: “Game of Thrones” or “Walking Dead.” That's pretty well all I can think of off the top of my head.

N. A. Foy: What is the message that you want to give your fans as an example as a person? Is there anything else you’d like to add before we finish?

Jenn: I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but the message I would like to give to our fans is Thank You for all the support either buying the album, sharing our posts on social media, or just taking the time to listen to our music. It makes all the difference! I'd just like to thank you for taking the time to do this interview, and if anyone is interested in anything Ariel's Attic to please visit our website  or our YouTube channel.
