N. A. Foy: Tell us a little about Bendida? How would you describe your sound?

Kremena: Bendida is Symphonic/Fantasy metal band from Bulgaria. Our sound is a combination of metal sound, female lead vocals, traditional folklore rhythms, a little bit of classical influence, and also coming from a very beautiful ancient instrument called viola da gamba, and all that impression goes together with enchanting fantasy lyrics. By the way, as I mentioned " viola da gamba ", I think we are the only metal band that involves that beautiful instrument from the epoch of the baroque. 🙂

N. A. Foy: I am actually unfamiliar with the "viola da gamba." Is that the instrument we see at the beginning of the video for "Land of Perun?"

Kremena: That's right! And also, the beginning of our album starts with this introduction. The beautiful ancient instrument can sometimes be confused with a small violoncello but it's actually viola. 🙂

N. A. Foy: Speaking of your album, "Goddess of the Moon," is there a release date for that?

Kremena: The album is completely recorded and there are just few small steps to finish it. We planned to present it officially this spring, but the problem is we still haven't decided the question with the label. We are still looking for offers and thinking about various ways.

N. A. Foy: I look forward to hearing it. How old were you when you decided to pursue a career in music and were there any particular musicians or singers that inspired you?

Kremena: Well my first steps in music were as a piano player. I was taking piano lessons as a child and started to sing many years later. I spent three years in a local choir as a first soprano...sometime after that I decided to sing my favorite metal music. I was taking private vocal lessons for three years. By the way, exactly three years passed since I was invited to become vocalist of Bendida. We walked a long way together with my talented friends from the band and with every step ahead things are becoming more and more exciting 🙂 .

I'm still thinking about that question...who inspired me 🙂 The metal music is my inspiration... it's the common expression of all these favorite bands, singers, musicians that I love. Each one of them gave me something special. If I start to mention all of these incredible names, it will take several pages 😀.

N. A. Foy: Out of the lyrics you perform so far, is there a particular one that you like best? Is there a story behind it?

Kremena: All of the songs are so special to me in a different way. The lyrics of each one is drawing a picture in my mind and all of the characters are alive and playing their scenario. Maybe the most special that I connect with my personal story is the song "Witch and the Devil" - it sounds a little bit horrible but it's actually a romantic story. Our music is like... there are doors between the real and the fantasy world and we are the people who possess the key to pass through these doors. Sometimes we play roles in the video, sometimes the same characters are crossing the reality. 🙂

N. A. Foy: What are some of the things you like to do for enjoyment when you are not doing music?

Kremena: First, I have to mention am an artist by education. My specialty is Metal design and I work as a jewelry designer. I can say my work is my hobby because I'm doing it for joy.  Also, I love traveling, martial arts...all kind of arts 😀.

N. A. Foy: Interesting, do you have a website where you sell your jewelry?

Kremena: Yes I have website, online shop, blog, and two facebook groups but most often updated are the facebook pages. So, if you are curious you can take a look at my works here . (Facebook Pages) 🙂

This is the sign of the ancient God of Thunders 🙂

N. A. Foy: You have gotten me interested in Slavic mythology now lol. Do you like reading about mythology?

Kremena: Hehe that's one of our tasks in our music; to promote traditional legends, stories, myths about ancient gods. Yes, I'm interested for sure. The name of our band brings mythology inside - the Goddess of the Moon! 🙂 Vinnie is the one who reads really a lot about it, and he is the author of the lyrics. I love to learn some legends I didn't know before. I'll give an example... we are working on our new song now that for me was very interesting to learn about. It's a legend about a flower that gives eternal life and grows at midnight in a secret place, protected by evil creatures. The rest of the story you will learn after we record the song 😀 .

N. A. Foy: That is really awesome. Mythological based lyrics are very interesting. I look forward to hearing that song. How about some favorites. What is your favorite color? Number? Foods? Movie(s)? Book(s)? Or any other favorites you want to mention?

Kremena: Mmm my favorite color is purple! It's the color of the kings... and it stays in the middle between the cold and the warm. I like the things that are in the middle between two opposites. Even my favorite perfume "Womanity" by Thierry Mugler is a ridiculous combination of weird fragrances. Favorite food... I can say I'm an expert on pancake making and pancake eating, but most of the pleasure is preparing them for my best friends! 🙂 Favorite movies... I made a facebook page about it some years ago, and it's called "Movies for the soul". Most of them are fantasy movies, fairy tales... you can take a look here 🙂. Really love the movie "Big Fish", "Angel-A", "Labyrinth"...and many more 🙂

N. A. Foy: I will check out your page 🙂 If you were stuck on an island, but were somehow able to listen to music, what three albums would you want with you?

Kremena: I would take Hypocrisy – “The four dimension”, Kamelot – “Karma”, and Paradise Lost – “Icon” 🙂

N. A. Foy: We are finally to the last one 🙂 What is the main message you want to give to yoru fans through your music and example as a person? Is there anything else you would like to tell everyone before we finish?

Kremena: With our music, we want to make people keep their senses open, their imagination alive, and never stop dreaming. If a life is a book that you have to paint with colored pencils, don't hesitate to use all of the colors. Be brave to take risks, make experiments....if you are not satisfied with the result, you can always turn the other page and start drawing from the beginning! 🙂
